How do writers push through mental, emotional, and creative blocks to reach their fullest potential on the page? Join us for a free craft class and reading with poet, actor, and international artist Cameron L. Mitchell, whose latest book Breaking the Block: Building a Path to Write the Story offers strategies for overcoming writer’s block while nurturing emotional intelligence, mental wellness, and literary craft.

In this one-hour craft talk, Cameron will share practical techniques for overcoming creative obstacles and unlocking your writing flow. Following the class, Cameron will read selections of poetry from Breaking the Block and discuss the process behind the book.

Breaking the Block: Building a path to write the story," is a book created to help people navigate  through the mental, emotional, and creative blocks that prevent them from being able to maximize their talents, dreams and goals. This book takes a deep dive into some creative writing tactics along with a series of poems and writing prompts.

You will see methods that speak to:

  • Emotional Intelligence- learning how to work with your emotions not against them.

  • Mental health- building a healthier habit that puts you in a better mindset when dealing with your goals. 

  • Literary development- the way you write the plan matters, having the right language will can lead to the forward thinking that you are capable of.

About the Author

What I do

Cameron L. Mitchell is an international artist known for his transformative storytelling. Honored as the 2022 Poet Laureate of Murfreesboro, he is the founder of Free Fyre, an arts organization whose mission is to use creative expressions to enhance personal and professional development. As a Spoken word artist he has collaborated with organizations such as: Disney, Legacy Foundation in Japan, Nafasi Art Space in Tanzania, Faith Temple in Germany, PBS, Meharry Medical college, National Jazz Museum in Harlem, NY among several others. An award-winning actor, Cameron is known for his role as Corey Maxson in “Fences” (Nashville Rep) which received the award for Best Contemporary Drama. Cameron is also starring in the feature film “Dating My Past” that premiered internationally in Curacao currently streaming online on Amazon Prime, Apple TV and Peacock.
